Pedigree of: "Evita"
(Supposed pure-Seppala dogs in this pedigree are indicated by purple-coloured type.)
THIS IS THE PEDIGREE represented by the registration papers of "Evita," born 7 September 2002. Evita came to me with CKC registration papers. I own this female and she resides in my kennel at this time. I have concealed her breeder's name as I am satisfied that the breeder purchased and mated Evita's parents in good faith that they were purebred dogs with valid registration papers that truthfully represented their ancestry. Personally I cannot believe that they were! Even the breeder, when he saw "Evita" as a mature female, doubted that they were. I do not know which alternative would be worse -- in view of what Evita seems to be neither option is acceptable, whether this is a true pedigree, or whether it is not. The pedigree adds up to 13/16 supposed Markovo-Seppala ancestry. Supposedly she is 98.25% Seppala by the ISSSC's system of reckoning. I have never seen a "percentage Seppala" of that purity that looked or acted anything like Evita. Her voice, behaviour, coat, and working style and ethic are nothing like those of a normal Seppala. Her breeder told me that one of her littermates had exhibited strong herding behaviour. Another person who had experience with Border Collies assured me that Evita would almost certainly have to have a healthy amount of Border Collie ancestry. So this -- apparently -- is what you can expect when you become involved with certain popular ISSSC "percentage Seppala" bloodlines.
