The AKC is now registering 32 rare breeds and will eventually incorporate most or all these breeds under its control (source - The American Kennel Club Online (www.akc.org) 7/9/97):
I.S.A. note: The list below was current in 1997. Readers are advised that the current count of AKC FSS breeds is no longer 32. It is now (as of April 2008) 65! For the names of breeds now included in the AKC takeover list, just web-search "AKC FSS breeds" to find the relevant page on the AKC website.
